The JV girls’ basketball team played Gilbert at Gilbert High School on Friday, February 2. The girls battled throughout the entire game and took the win with a score of 37-32.
The Cubs started off well with a 6-0 lead, but then trailed 6-13 at the end of the first, and 9-21 at half. The Gilbert Tigers made five threes in the first half while the Nevada Cubs made zero.
“The second half was some of the JV Cubs’ best defense played,” said Coach Mark Hersom.
The JV girls played a mixture of 1-3-1 and 1-2-2 defense zone to stop the Tigers from scoring as much. The Cubs held the Tigers to six points in the second half making a comeback.
Sophomore guard Megan Wessels shot well from outside, hitting four threes in the second half scoring 18 points. Freshman post Sydney Mosinski followed scoring 10 points. Sophomore post Amelea Jones added three points and sophomore guard Meredith Harter with one point.
“Megan Wessels had her best game of the season, and Sydney Mosinski had another strong outing scoring 10,” said Coach Hersom.
The JV girls are now 15-5, and finish their season Tuesday, February 6 with a game on the road at Grundy Center.
