On Monday, December 11th, the 8th girls basketball team played Gilbert. This was the Cubs’ second time playing Gilbert this season. The Cubs lost to the Tigers 30-19 previously.
Both teams played similar styles with their defense, which resulted in a low scoring affair. The Cubs led at the end of each quarter except the last quarter. The Cubs fell to the Tigers 18-20. The Cubs missed a last second shot as time expired, which would have sent it into overtime.
Coach Thompson was really proud about how much growth the girls have had since playing the Tigers last and about them playing solid defense on the Tigers most dominant player. Maddie Dunham was the Cubs’ leading scoring with 5 points. Elie Tuhn had 4 points. Ella Higgins contributed with 3 points and Mayzi Weig, Alex Arnaud and Briar Crain each had a basket. The loss drops their record to 5-3 on the season.
For the B-Team, The Cubs kept their streak alive behind a great defensive performance winning 30-10. The leading scorer was Hannah Walderna with 10 points. Briar Crain, Tessa Borwick, and Sarah Miller each scored 4 points. Three girls had 2 points; Peyton Hanson, Makayla Spaid and Sammie Herridge. The B-Team’s record is 7-0.
The Cubs travel to South Hamilton on Thursday, December 14.
