The Nevada Girls basketball team ended their season this past weekend. They played a tough game against a great West Marshall team. West Marshall, as of February 18th, was 18-2 on the season and conference champions of the North Iowa Cedar Conference.
During the matchup, the Cubs were leading against the Trojans 24-22. After the third quarter, the game was tied up at 33-33. The game ended with a season-ending loss for the Cubs with a score of 38-47.
Overall, the Cubs had a good season ending the season off 10-13. Compared to the 2018-2019 season, this is a positive incline. Last season they were 8-14 and (7-7) in conference play. The Cubs leading scorer this season was Senior Kacie Rewerts who averaged 11.2 points per game. Rewerts along with other seniors: Meredith Harter, Amelea Jones, and Megan Wessels all had good senior seasons.
The future of the Cubs is definitely positive though. Four of the five usual starters for the Cubs are returning next year, with two of them being sophomores. Elie Tuhn, sophomore, was the second leading scorer for the Cubs this year with 8.1 points per game starting all but one game this season. Sophomores, Shelbi Hazlitt and Madalyn Dunham also shared starting time for the Cubs this season. Tuhn and many others are making sure the Cubs will have a bright future ahead of them.
