The 2019-2020 basketball season started Monday the 18th under the instruction of second year coach Tyler Struck. The Nevada basketball program has a total of 43 kids out between 9-12th grade. The boys finished 8-13 last season as a result of a tough schedule.
There are eight seniors on this year’s basketball team; Tyler Sansgaard, Kody Kruschwitz, Henry Nelson, Ben Rima, Chase Lycke, Kyle Linder, Jerrett Fredin, and Andy Rohde. The Nevada basketball program also has a strong underclassman group that will be able to help contribute to the success of the season.
“To win the conference,” Sansgaard said when asked about his goals for the season. The team has all the assets needed to win the conference. Sansgaard will be leading the charge as he scored 358 total points last season averaging 17.0 pts/g. Things Tyler has been doing to prepare for this season are working out and going to open gyms.
Sansgaard said, “To improve my game, I have been shooting daily and playing games, as well as working with the team.”
Unfortunately Nevada’s other two leading scorers, Ayden Rhodes and Kody Kruschwitz, are out with injuries.
Nevada also has a great JV team. The JV team is looking to help out the varsity in practice as well as improve their skills and prepare to play at the varsity level.
Caleb Kookier said, “I have been in the weight room and trying to stay healthy for this basketball season.”
Caleb is a sophomore and is looking to help out the team wherever needed.
Although Nevada is in a tough conference, they should have a fairly good chance at bringing home the championship.
The varsity and JV teams scrimmage at Carlisle on November 26. Regular season competition begins Monday, December 2, with games at home against South Hardin.
