The varsity boys soccer team lost a close one to North Polk, 2-1, on Saturday, May 25th, at North Polk.
It was the district finals, the last game the Cubs needed to win to go to state, but despite a hard fight from Nevada, it resulted in a Comet victory.
“Our sub-state final was a tough way to end our season. North Polk is a great team, and it was a game we expected to come down to the wire. I thought our team played well, and we had opportunities to score multiple times,” Coach Todd Sampson. “We gave up a goal early in the game and had to work hard to tie it up with 9 minutes left on a great pass from Jacob Stufflebeam and finish by Ayden Rhodes. Unfortunately, we gave up the go ahead goal shortly after our score and weren’t able to finish another one to tie it up,” said Sampson.
“Our team really had a great season and a lot to be proud of. I really feel we have built a winning culture and need to continue to build on this during the off season. We had a great group of seniors this year, and I know they have made the program better over their four years,” said Sampson.
The Cubs ended their season with a record of 13-7.
