On November 8, The 8th grade girls basketball team played at Nevada Middle School gym vs Greene County. They played an A game and half of a B game. The girls free throw shooting percentage is what Coach Cary would like to work on as a team. Coach liked that they shot 16 attempts. That means they were aggressive to the basket. Positioning on their help-side defense needs to be more consistent.
The A Game’s score at the end of the first quarter was 5-0. After the first quarter opening game jitters, the team settled down and the score at half was 16-2. They adjusted to our defense at half with more ball pressure and our off-ball positioning which lead to several transition baskets. The team outscored the Rams 12-2 in that quarter. The final score was 37-9.
The leading scorer was Ella Higgins with 8 points. The remaining scorers were Hannah Waldera with 7; Mayzi Weig with 5; Elie Tuhn, Maddie Dunham, Makayla Spaid each chipped in 4; and Tessa Borwick contributed 3 points. The A team’s record is now 1-0. The B team’s record is also 1-0.
