On Tuesday the varsity boys track team traveled to Carlisle for a one class varsity meet. The competing teams were Indianola, Carlisle, Norwalk, Harlan, Nevada, Winterset, ADM, Bondurant-Farrar, Chariton, Perry, Oskaloosa, and Knoxville.
The Cubs placed fifth overall with several first place finishes and many good races overall.
The Cubs started the running events off with a bang winning the sprint medley with a personal record. The team of Caeden DaSilva, Dylan Jensen, Jakob Strottman, and Joven Nelson was also able to claim the second spot in all of 3A with an impressive time of 1:34.78.
Highlights continued with the Cubs’ first place finishes in the 4×200 meter relay, and the 4×100 meter relay.
The 4×100 meter relay of DaSilva, Jensen, Strottman, and Nelson continues to dominate the top of Iowa’s class 3A rankings. The team will compete on Saturday at the Drake Relays as well.
Nevada’s 4×200 meter relay continued their very strong season with their win Tuesday. The team of DaSilva, Sam Abraham, Strottman, and Nelson continues to roll through their competition and remains undefeated this season. The 4×200 relay has also earned its spot to compete at the Drake Relays Friday.
Nevada’s 4×800 team was also able to claim a medal with a time of 8:51.58 placing fifth overall.
Sam Abraham also long jumped a fantastic 21’ 03” in his victory over 28 other competitors adding to the Cubs’ first place finishes.
Joven Nelson was able to run the meet’s fastest 200m time winning with a time of 22.58.
Freshman Caeden DaSilva spoke on the upcoming Drake Relays saying, “I think Drake is going to be an amazing experience. I’m very excited.”
The boys competed very well overall as the season progresses. We wish good luck to the qualifying relays this weekend. Go Cubs!
