On Saturday the 6th, the Nevada varsity girls soccer played against Indianola at home. Coach Randy Davis was very pleased with the girl’s performance this early in the season. Davis noted that there are still many aspects that need fine tuning prior to the regional games down the line.
Overall Nevada’s offense was able to seal the win for them with three goals scored.
Defensively the girls also performed very well allowing no goals over the course of the contest.
To start the game out both defenses played well and no goals were scored in the first half.
Entering the second half, Nevada’s offense began to heat up. Eventually goals would come from the freshman Mayzi Weig, sophomore Erin Coogler, and senior Maddie Stevens.
This would result in a final score of 3-0, moving the team to a record of 2-1. With that, the girls were off to a hot start outscoring their opponents 9-3 in their first three games.
Sophomore Hannah Thomsen spoke on the game, “I think we all did a really good job of keeping up the momentum of the Iowa Falls game the night before and bringing it to the start of today’s game (against Indianola). I’m proud of how we didn’t let up throughout the game and continued to pressure the other team. It was a good experience for us as a team to build off of in future competitions.”
This Tuesday the girls earned another victory against PCM with an impressive final score of 10-0.
Moving forward into the future, the girls will look to continue to playing with good chemistry and aggressive offense.
