Despite the standout contributions of junior Tyler Sansgaard and senior Devin See, the Nevada boys were not able to hold on against Bondurant Farrar this Thursday, January 17.
The Cubs suffered a heartbreaking home loss of 52-53, despite holding a lead for the greater portion of the contest.
Sansgaard continued an impressive offensive year, putting up 17 points, and See ‘did a little bit of everything,’ as Coach Tyler Struck said, with 10 points, 15 rebounds, five steals and three assists.
While the boys played well, they fell just short. Junior Kody Kruschwitz was able to highlight some positives despite the hard loss.
“We fought hard and played well,” said Kruschwitz. “But I believe we will grow as a team because of the loss.”
Entering the first quarter Nevada played very well and held the Blue Jays to just 11 points while scoring 20 of their own.
Again in the second quarter, the Cubs’ defense shone bright, holding the Blue Jays’ offense to just ten points while extending the lead with thirteen of their own.
Going in to the half the Cub defense had held Bondurant Farrar to a comfortable 33-21 lead.
Despite the Cubs’ control of the first half, the Blue Jays began to turn the tide of the game in the third quarter with their hard-nosed play on both sides of the court. The Blue Jay offense produced nineteen points to Nevada’s eleven.
To conclude the contest, the Bondurant Farrar boys held Nevada to just eight points and posted thirteen in the fourth. It was just enough to pull away with the win.
Following the loss, Nevada fell to 7-8 on the season. Looking forward, the Cubs hope to rebound and make the most of their remaining games. They play next at PCM Monday, February 4.
