The Nevada Cubs got a huge win over a determined Newton team Tuesday night, January 8. The Cubs played amazing ball on both sides of the court, and Coach Struck saw some players really step it up and do different things.
“Kody Kruschwitz and Jack Cahill both had amazing games,” said Head Coach Tyler Struck, “ I also saw Tyler Sansgard help out the team with assists.”
The Cubs had many goals going into the game. One of their goals was to value the ball and limit turnovers. On the defensive end their goal was to get back in transition and not give up easy baskets.
In the first quarter of play for the Cubs, it was a close game 12-8 with Nevada on top. Going into the second quarter three straight three’s by Newton tied up the game at half.
Coming into the third quarter the Cubs made their presence known by breaking Newton’s press and getting layups in transition. As a result, the Cubs pulled away leading 50-31 and the end of the third. In the final quarter of play Nevada kept up the intensity and urgency, winning 70-47.
Tuesday’s win makes the Cub’s 5-6 overall and 2-5 conference. They look to take on Saydel Friday night in the Nevada Fieldhouse.
