The Nevada girls varsity basketball team kept their foot on the pedal to blow by Greene County on Tuesday night, winning 47-10. The game was held at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
“We got off to a great start and never gave up the lead,” said Coach Jordan Bentley. “The energy was great for the whole game.”
In the first quarter, it was Nevada the whole way leading 11-0. The second quarter was similar, with Nevada playing awesome defense and offense and out-scoring Greene County 25-1. The score would be 36-1 at the half.
In the third quarter, Greene County kept it close with each team scoring six points. The fourth quarter was similar with scoring as Nevada scored five to Greene County’s three. That would bring the final score, 47-10, with Nevada having a great experience playing in Wells Fargo Arena.
The leading scorers for Nevada were Kacie Rewerts with 12 points, Amanda Fortmann with 11 points, and Mikayla Long with nine.
Leading rebounders were Amelea Jones and Addi Vorm with six rebounds each, and Mikayla Long and Kacie Rewerts with five each. Amanda Fortmann also had seven steals on the night, and Addi Vorm had four assists. Nevada had 33 total rebounds on the night. They also shot 76% from the free throw line going 10/13.
The win Tuesday night makes the Nevada girls varsity record 4-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference. The team resumes their season after winter break.
