On Wednesday, October 17th the varsity Cubs volleyball team went up against the tough North Polk Comets. It didn’t go as planned, with North Polk winning 3-1. The games scores were 13-25, 26-24, 18-25, 19-25. It was hard-fought and close the whole time.
The Cubs had some key players that kept them close. Kacie Rewerts had 19 kills, Sydney Mosinski and Morgan Tupper both had nine kills each. Morgan Tupper also had 17 digs, Ellie Gray had 15 digs and Amanda Fortmann had 13. Jaeden Heintz really stepped up with perfect serving at 19-19.
“We struggled with serve receive in game one. Without good passing, it was hard for our offense to move as fast as it would like. North Polk was able to get their blocks into position and their backrow defense was really strong,” said Coach Lori Stephenson.
“We were able to hold on for a win in game tw, but in games three and four, we were never able to hold a lead for very long. North Polk had scouted us really well and really took advantage of some of our weaknesses,” said Coach Stephenson.
“I thought the girls learned a lot this season, and it seemed like they really had a lot of fun together at practices and in the matches. The seniors did a nice job giving us quality leadership and good minutes on the floor. We’ll miss them a lot next year!” said Coach Stephenson.
Despite the early end, the girls had a good season ending 22-18.
