On Saturday, September 29, Nevada’s high school cross country team traveled to Eldora to compete in a meet. Nevada did very well, and many runners were able to earn a new personal record.
Nevada’s JV runners were able to win their division with 19 points compared to East Marshall’s 23 points. Junior Madison Davis won the meet for Nevada. Not far behind, senior Lesly Abarca improved her time by four minutes from last year and placed third in the meet. Senior Caitlyn Tibodeau placed fifth.
The varsity girls team for Nevada placed second out of nine teams, right behind Baxter. Freshman Elie Tuhn finished first for Nevada and sixth overall. Junior Eliana Hornbuckle came in second for Nevada and ninth overall.
Elie Tuhn said, “I think I did a really good job of using the hills to my advantage and I’m very proud of how hard my team worked to place second.”
As a team, the JV boys placed third for Nevada out of five teams with Webster City and South Hardin placing first and second. Senior Hudson Vermillion finished third and really stood out to Coach Mike Christiansen.
“I really liked how he put himself out there and ran with the leaders. It’s scary to challenge yourself and attempt to do something you have never done, but he did just that and ran great,” Christiansen said.
The Cubs varsity boy team ran great and finished third out of nine teams, just behind South Hardin and BCLUW. Senior Dalton Baker finished first for Nevada and tenth overall. Senior Noah Nusbaum and sophomore Carter Franzen did great even though both were battling injuries. Senior Jacob Sanders finished third for Nevada and sixteenth overall. Sanders improved his time by 45 seconds compared to his run at least year’s meet.
Sophomore Elliot Frideres said, “It was the best run I’ve seen from a majority of the team all year and the biggest sign of improvement.”
As a whole, Nevada cross country is continuing to improve and are looking forward to their next meet, Thursday, October 4 at South Hamilton.
