The Nevada JV girls volleyball team traveled to Des Moines East High School to play in a tournament on September 15. The Nevada girls took first place, beating Des Moines East, Lincoln, Indianola, and Southeast Polk.
Sophomore Addi Vorm said, “We were very energetic and we were smarter than most of the teams there so it was easy to get point. Our serving was also very good.
Coach Catie Neuman said, “The girls did a nice job of seeing what was open on the other side of the floor and putting the ball there. We are going to work on hitting this week and being more aggressive with our hits.”
Some key players to the Cubs’ success include Mayzi Weig, Ashlynn Sporrer and Bridget Patterson.
Coach Neuman also said, “Mayzi had a great day of serving for us. Ashlynn step up for us in the setting position for most of the day. Bridget was very strong for us in the back left position and had a lot of good defensive plays.”
With the sweep of this year’s Des Moines East Tournament, this is the 6th year in a row that the Cubs have won it all.
The Cubs’ next match is Thursday, September 20 at South Hamilton.
