The Nevada boys track team ran at the State Meet last weekend, and ran on all three days. The Cubs placed 13th overall, which was their best finish in 10 years!
The boys track team qualified for nine events: the 4×200, Sprint Medley, 400 Hurdles (two runners), 100 meter dash, 3200, 1600, Long Jump, and High Jump.
The 4×200 team (Brendan Sellberg, Jakob Strottman, Rodrigo Perez, and Joven Nelson) are State Champions with a time season best of 1:29.66! The Sprint Medley of Brendan Sellberg, Preston Cattanach, Rodrigo Perez, and Joven Nelson placed 3rd in a school record time of 1:33.60. Malachi Hornbuckle finished 5th in the 3200 with a new school record time of 9:50.84. Sam Abraham finished 8th in long jump with a jump about 20 feet 8 inches. Malachi also placed 10th in the mile with a PR of 4:30.66.
Coach John Pelzer said, “It was an outstanding season!” The Cubs had many athletes qualify for the Drake Relays. The Boys track team also won the Newton invitational in April.
The Cubs are also looking forward to next year!
Coach said, “I am always sad to see the seniors go (but it’s the nature of this business), but I am hopeful about the future! We return many quality athletes for next season, and I believe we can make another run at a state title next year!”
