The middle school cross country runners competed at home Monday, September 28th. The boys came out on top, taking first place. The girls had a strong outing, finishing third out of eight teams. Coach Gilchrest was just happy to see the team competing at home, as the meet has been cancelled the past three years.
Coach Gilchrest had this to say about the weather conditions: “It was very rainy during the race and made for quite the muddy conditions. The runners all found it challenging and fun to run in the rain, kind of a muddy slip-and-slide. It’s a race they will be talking about for years!”
The boys ran without timing as the equipment malfunctioned due to the rain. The top runner for the boys team was Gavin Egelend who took first place, followed by Brian Rhode with a strong third place finish. Jackson Baker, Maddix Holland, and Ryan Wessells all finished in the top 11.
The girls’ leading runner was Evelyn Anderson who finished eighth overall with a time of 14:42 Ava Vanderheyden finished right behind in 12th with a time of 14:56. Aubrey Thompson, Avery Anderson, Sophia Martinez, and Kaylee Oxley all finished inside the top 40.
The Cubs finish their season with the conference meet on Monday, October 12, at Saydel.
