8th Grade VB vs West Marshall 9.21.20
The eighth grade volleyball team swept the West Marshall Trojans Monday night, September 21. The Cubs kicked off their first home game against the new-to-the-conference Trojans.
The Cubs had everything clicking right away as they served 100% while cruising to a 21-8 win in the first game. Dakota Hendricks continues to lead the Cubs with her serves, as she served at 93% including 12 aces for the match. Coach Lori Stephenson has been impressed with Meagan Mcgaffin as she continues to show great leadership skills on the court. Allie Dittmer has also been able to set her teammates up well.
“The A team already has a lot of ‘flow’ to their game. They have a high understanding of their position on the team and how to cover the court effectively,” says Stephenson.
The B team continued the winning on Monday night as they also swept the Trojans. Keagan Mather led the serving efforts with serving a perfect 100%. Alexis Muschick and Reyna Taylor also chipped in with serving 90% a piece. Stephenson looks forward to continuing improvement on the team’s serving as the look to reach 90% as a group. They served around 80% on Monday night.
Coach Stephenson had this to say about the B team after their game Monday night, “They continue to do a good job learning positions and working on the fundamentals. The passers are providing pretty decent coverage of the floor, and it’s fun to see the offense we’re able to put together.”
It will be fun to see their improvement over the course of the year.
Just like the other two teams, the C team was able to come out on top of all of their games against the Trojans. Stephenson pointed out Dakota Hastings as being in the leadership role on the team. She helps get all the girls into the correct position. The girls are starting to set each other and get improved offensive efficiency. Amara Ose was the leading server for the Cubs as she went 15/16, good enough for 94%. Stephenson also wanted to point out the excellent leadership that Gracie Dobson has been showing early on in the season, as she continues to make the right plays at the net.
The Cubs continue their home game streak Monday, October 12, against North Polk.
