The boys JV basketball team, coached by accomplished coach Greg Baethke, has been unstoppable lately. The team has a total season record of 8-1 and a conference record of 5-0.
JV is a tricky spot to be, especially in basketball, because all the teams play on the same night. The schedules are packed, and there is a restriction that athletes are only allowed to play six quarters each night. The way the coaching staff divides the playing time for each player is based off of what they need to improve their game. Some might play more JV than varsity and vice versa.
As for practice, the team has been working on their fundamentals. They have been really working hard on ball handling, shooting, and their footwork for both offense and defense.
The JV team has come a long way from the beginning of the season, and Coach Baethke has noticed lots of improvement.
“I feel that at this point of the season it would have to be our defense,” Coach Baethke said about the team’s area of biggest growth.
The boys are improving everyday and looking forward to the rest of the season. Their next game is Tuesday night at home against Roland-Story.
