This year the Nevada High School boys’ junior varsity cross country team is working towards their goal of finishing in the top half of the Heart of Iowa conference meet. There are 16 boys out for cross country this season and they have been working hard in practice.
“Each practice is a little different,” said Head Coach James Mills. “There are several different types of runs that the boys do. Those consist of long runs, as well as some shorter, faster workouts that usually take place on the track. Many of their workouts take place at Harrington Park.”
One of the obstacles this year has been the weather. The heat has affected the boys’ practices. They have also meets canceled and postponed due to rain.
The cross country team has had a total of four meets this year. At the last meet, the top two finishers were Dominick Garcia and Marcus Nelson. Dominick finished with a 5k time of 21:48, and Marcus finished with a time of 22:23.
The boys junior varsity cross country team will continue to work hard to improve their times and work towards their goals for the season.
