The Nevada freshman football team is coached by Brooke Thompson and Cory Barloon. Coach Barloon runs the offense, and Coach Thompson runs the defense. The team is having a pretty decent year so far with a record of 3-1, if you count their win with the JV team against Perry. The Cubs have defeated North Polk (22-14), Perry (37-0), and Vinton-Shellsburg (7-6). The loss came from a big and tough South Tama team (46-0).
When asked what the team’s goals were for the season, Coach Barloon replied, “Our main goal is really getting you disciplined enough to execute and run plays that will help get you ready for varsity in the next few years. With that comes responsibility and hardwork.”
A normal practice for the team starts with stretches. After stretches they go into special teams. After that they go to individual defense. After indy d they go to team offense. During team offense they set up a defense to play against the offense. After that they finish off with indy o and team d. The practices get pretty intense. There are lots of contact drills and fast paced executions.
The Cubs’ next game is this Friday night, October 11, at 4:30 at West Marshall.
