The Nevada Cubs’ eighth grade football team is currently 1-1 coached by Jordan Bentley and Greg Bathke. The Cubs’ only loss came to the DCG Mustangs which is a 4A school.
Coach Bentley said, “We fought hard in that game, but they just wanted it a little more than us.”
The Cubs lost to the Mustangs 24-12. The Cubs’ win came from a tough PCM team that really tested them in the first quarter. The Cubs ended up destroying the PCM Mustangs 41-6.
Every team has a main goal. Sometimes it’s to win every game and get to the championship, and sometimes it’s just to win a few games. The Cubs’ goal is different from all of those.
Bentley said, “I think our main goal is to get the kids to learn the fundamentals of the game and to build their leadership as football players and as people on and off the field.”
Coach Bentley gave a full description of what his practices are like.
“First we start our with our stretches, and then we will go into our team defense and team offense, which is just our installment of our plays and the way we cover things. After all of that we go into our hitting drills such as Oklahoma drills, and then we usually end with a scrimmage of some sort.”
The eighth grade’s next game is Thursday, October 10, at home against Saydel.
