On Monday, May 22, the Nevada Cubs started the baseball season with their home opener against Eagle Grove.
The season was started off strong with an 11-1 victory with a strong pitching performance from the starting pitcher, senior Dylan Sporrer. Sporrer went five innings with only one earned run.
Other highlights included five stolen bases from the Cubs with two coming from senior Brock Dutton, one coming from senior James Carsrud, one coming from senior Ryne Isleb, and one coming from freshman Cael Franzen.
Offensively hits came from all throughout the lineup from Nevada. Junior Ross Uthe, Dutton, and Isleb led the team with two hits each.
Sophomore Jack Chandler spoke on the game saying, “It was great to come out with a win on opening night, I thought we look good for the first game. But I think we still have a lot to polish up for the upcoming games.”
The team moves to 1-0 on the season with a promising start. Moving forward, the Cubs will look to polish on what they are already doing well and expand their skills.
