The girls Nevada varsity soccer team played Clear Lake on April 30. Entering into the game Clear Lake had a 4-1 record on the season. The Cubs knew the Lions would provide them good competition and were ready for the challenge. The Cubs were coming off of a two-game skid and ready to get back on a winning track. The weather conditions were terrible for both teams because of the cold, rainy and windy conditions. The Cubs ended up winning 4-1.
Clear Lakes’ defensive strategy was to slow the game down and pack the box. The Cubs offense was unaffected by nether the Lions defense or the weather. Nevada had 14 shots on goal in the game. The individual offensive stand outs were Alex Arnaud, Tessa Borwick, Maddie Stevens, and Addi Vorm with one goal each.
Nevada’s defense proved stingy with Erica Sporrer having four saves on the night and only giving up one goal. The Cubs consistent offensive and defensive pressure proved to be too much for the Lions The Cubs ended up winning 4-1.
The win moved the Cubs season record at that point of the season to 10-3. The Cubs next opponent is Grinnell on Tuesday, May 28, in the opening game of the 2019 post season play.
