The Nevada boys varsity team placed fourth in their tournament on Saturday, May 4th. They ended their tournament on the 4th with a 1-2 record, but the boys had good defense, and they worked hard all day.
They started the day playing Des Moines Hoover and lost 1-0. They started a little sluggish, but improved as the game went on. They struggled creating offensive opportunities against Hoover’s defense but learned that possession and accurate passing needs improvement for them to reach their potential.
Coach Todd Sampson said, “I thought our defensive players did well against a team that had great ball skills and were very creative on the offensive end.”
Nevada’s second game was against Kuemper, and they won 2-1. This game they got down 1-0 early on, but regained their composure and were able to come back to win. They played better this game, but still struggled in the offensive end of the field.
Nevada’s final game was against Gilbert, and they lost 2-1.
Coach Sampson said, “I felt this was the best game that we played of the day. We possessed and passed the ball better than we had all day.”
Chase Lycke had a great shot to put us up 1-0 to start the game, but the team was playing without two of their starters, they gave up a couple of goals.
The boys play next on Friday, May 17 at Newton.
