The middle school girls track team competed at a home track meet last Thursday, April 18. Both the eighth and seventh grade teams competed very well with the seventh grade team winning the meet, and the eighth graders placing fourth.
For the seventh grade team highlights included first place finishes from Emma Strottman in the long jump and Melanie Khounsurath in 100 meter and 200 meter dash. Khounsurath ran an impressive time of 14.07 in the 100 meter dash.
Menickie continues to impress in distance events, and placed first in the 1500 and 800 meter run
Kylie Taylor was also able to contribute, placing first in three events. Taylor won the 100 meter hurdles, 200 meter hurdles, and the shuttle hurdle relay. The shuttle hurdle relay also featured Emma Strottman, Tori Menickie, and Josie Farmer.
The final first place finish of the night was the 4×200 meter relay that consisted of Reagan Davis, Graci Schiller, Strottman, and Khounsurath.
Coach Lori Stephenson was impressed with the girls and expected them to compete for a win going into the meet. Stephenson said, “I knew that going into the meet the seventh graders had a very good chance of winning. We’ve just had really solid performances from Tori Menickie in the distance events, Melanie Khounsurath in the sprints, and Kylie Taylor in the hurdles.”
The eighth grader girls highlights included first place finishes in the 400 meter dash from Allison Kruzich as well as a win from the 4×400 meter relay. Kruzich anchored the 4×400 meter relay as well with Avery Hinson, Ella Check, and Mallory Mills running before her.
Overall it was a very productive meet for the girls. The team hopes to continue to drop times and work hard.
