The varsity girls basketball team put in a determined effort at Gilbert but lost, 29-51, on Friday, February 1.
The Cubs were only down by six by the end of the first quarter.
“We did a good job coming back in the first quarter and had many opportunities to cut into the lead in the second quarter,” said Coach Jordan Bentley.
A highlight for the team was that the Cubs showed ownership of their defense. They held the Tigers to only nine points in the second quarter.
“Defensively we played well. We just struggled to make shots on offense,” commented Coach Bentley.
The leading scorer of the game was Kacie Rewerts with 10 points. Amanda Fortmann had nine points. Along with Rewerts scoring, she had 13 rebounds for a double double. Fortmann had a big night defensively with five steals.
The Cubs’ season ended on Saturday, February 9, with a first-round regional loss to Clarion Goldfield Dows.
