On Tuesday, January 31, the seventh grade boys basketball A and B teams both had a tough loss against North Polk. It was the third game of the season for the boys. The final score for the A game was 9-49, and the B game ended 17-44.
The A team boys ended the first quarter 2-10. In the second quarter, the Cubs scored two more points and ended the quarter with a score of 4-18.
A total of five points was scored in the second half. The seventh graders struggled with the opponent’s press which resulted in them not being able to score a lot of points.
Alec Higgins was the leading score for the A team with three points. Kyle Kingsbury, Cason Stevenson and Will Palmer all had two points,
The B team boys played a very competitive first half. They were down 5-7 in the first quarter and 14-18 was the ending score of the first half.
In the third quarter, North Polk started to make more baskets and ended the quarter ahead of the Cubs 16-36.
The Cubs had a very strong defense in the fourth quarter. The leading scorer was Breshaun Williams with eight points. Will Bauman and Ian Thomas had three points each. Drew Hillman and Jackson Ried had two points. Sam Hanson and Rowan Steele both made a free throw.
“The boys needed to make more offensive cuts without the ball, but played well considering the lack of practice due to snow days,” said Coach Cary Thompson.
These games put the A team’s record at 1-2 and the B team’s record at 1-3.
The Cubs play next on Monday, February 18 at home against South Hamilton.
