The Nevada varsity boys basketball team traveled to South Hamilton in a conference matchup against the Hawks on February 5th. The Cubs ended up on the losing end with a score of 75-42.
South Hamilton is currently the best team in the Heart of Iowa Conference with an 18-1 record. It was South Hamilton’s senior night which really helped the senior starters come out with a lot of energy.
“We started off really slow,” said Head Coach Tyler Struck. “The fact that it was senior night – I felt like they had the upper hand in energy. After the first quarter we really started to slow down and get to the basket more. Unfortunately the Hawks just came out punching early to get a big lead that we couldn’t come back from.”
The Cubs are hoping to improve their record of 8-12, in future competitions.
On the other hand, the starting guard for the Cubs, Tyler Sansgaard, broke the Nevada record for most threes made in a single season. The old record was 58 previously set by Zach Anderson in 2013 and tied by Joe Heintz in 2016.
The varsity boys are preparing to play in their first district game against Bondurant-Farrar at Ballard on February 18th.
