On December 13, Nevada’s 7th grade girls basketball team took on South Hamilton at home. Nevada’s A team game ended in a tough loss, 13-31. The girls B team won, 18-7.
The Cub’s A team jumped out to a half time lead of 10-6 after playing the best defensive half of basketball this season. In the second half, Nevada just could not keep up, and the offense turned cold. That gave South Hamilton the 31-13 win.
Coach Corey Long said, “We need to learn to play at our best the entire game and learn to play more physically with the stronger teams.”
Nevada’s B team was able to move the ball around well during the first half and get some good looks at the basket. That earned them a 12-3 lead at half time. As Nevada played with teamwork and confidence, they were held to only six points during the second half but ended up winning 18-7.
Coach Long says, “As a team, we did a nice job playing hard for most of the night, and we did a nice job running our press on defense.”
The Cubs look forward to finish up their season with their last two games this week. The 7th grade girls’ last game will be on December 20, at Roland-Story.
