The JV boys basketball team took a defeat from South Hamilton in an exciting 52-55 game on Friday, December 7. The team was led by Henry Nelson who scored 27 points for the Cubs, Chase Lycke who had seven and Connor Schnettgoecke who had six. Henry Nelson also led the team in rebounding with five, and Chase Lycke had three.
“We want to play hard and put forth our best effort. We did that for three quarters, but we need to find a way to play that way for the entire game,” said Coach Greg Baethke.
The Cubs struggled to get momentum started at the beginning of the game, especially in the first quarter. Things were very slow and almost sluggish, and this got the team down 20-9. After the second quarter started, things started picking up. The boys started playing more aggressively and managed to tie the game. By the half, they were leading by six. It became very close, but the team ended up losing by three in the last quarter.
The squad’s main goal is to become more aggressive starting at the beginning of the game and playing with more effort the whole game. The team now has a record of 3-2 and play their next game at home against PCM on Friday, December 14.
