The JV girls basketball took a road trip to Iowa Falls for a game on December 3.
The Cubs lost 43-25 and after that game, the Cubs’ record dropped to 1-4.
The Cubs battled and overcame an early 7-2 deficit after the first three minutes and started to create on offense. The Cubs got some stops defensively, which allowed them to take a lead 15-14 with six minutes left in the second quarter.
“Iowa Falls ran the floor well and got back to back threes in the next couple possessions and our offense went stagnant partly due to injuries. We’re looking for shooters and girls who can create offensively for the future of the program and at times it has been a challenge for some to realize their potential as the game of basketball has a lot to do about confidence as it does skill,” said Coach Mark Hersom.
Iowa Falls made six three point shots, the Cubs had three with sophomore guard Gabby Sampson having a breakout game hitting one and scoring a team-high eight. The Cubs struggled hitting free throws(went 6-13). Other scorers were freshman Alex Arnaud had seven, sophomores Hannah Fritz and Katelyn Kingsbury each with three, and two apiece from junior Erica Sporrer and freshman Tessa Borwick.
The Cubs’ next game is at North Polk on December 11.
