On Tuesday, December 4, the Nevada varsity girls basketball team traveled to Saydel to take on the Eagles. The Cubs had a great night, beating the Eagles 63-14. The Cubs picked up their first win on the year, making them 1-5.
In the first quarter, the girls jumped out early and went ahead 14-3. The Cubs’ defense showed to be strong after holding the Eagles to four points in the second quarter scoring 18 themselves.
After the half time break, the Cubs emphasized that they were not going to hold back on the Eagles
In the third quarter, the Cubs showed no sign of holding back, scoring another 15 pounds and holding the Eagles to three. And finally in the fourth quarter the Cubs scored 16 points and held the Eagles to only three.
The commanding Cubs proved to be too much to handle for the Eagles, and it showed throughout the night.
Coach Jordan Bentley said, “We got off to a great start! Our defense played very well all night and held Saydel to 14 points total. Offensively we pushed the ball in transition which led to open shots at the basket.”
The top scorers on the night were junior Kacie Rewerts with 22 and sophomore Addi Vorm with 15 points.
On Friday, December 7, the Nevada girls will be taking on the South Hamilton Hawks at home.
