On Tuesday, December 4, Nevada’s 8th grade girls team competed against PCM at home. Nevada’s A team lost in a low scoring game with a score of 10-27
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Nevada was trailing PCM 10-16. Throughout the fourth, PCM pulled away, scoring nine points while Nevada wasn’t able to put any more up on the board.
PCM played man defense and packed the lane, forcing Nevada to shoot jumpers and contested layups. Nevada’s A team just was not able to get used to shooting outside shots.
But, Nevada excelled on defense and was able to hold PCM to only a six point lead until the fourth quarter.
Avery Hinson and Bridget Cahill worked together to score all the points for Nevada. Avery Hinson finished the game with seven due to aggressively attacking the basket. Bridget Cahill was able to score three points for Nevada’s A team.
Coach Cary Thompson said, “Natalie Barber did a nice job of communicating ball screens and executing our defensive strategy.”
The Cubs B game ended in a tough loss with a score of 11-28.
Kaleigh Groat was the Cubs’ leading scorer, with a total of four points. Bridget Cahill, Paige Handsaker, and Natalie Barber each finished the game with two points. Chloe Purser also stood out on defense during the B game.
The losses bring both 8th grade teams’ records to 2-5. Up next, Nevada will play at home against Gilbert, on Monday, December 10.
