On Thursday, November 29th, the Nevada 8th grade girls basketball team headed to Roland-Story for their second game on the road.
Both the A and B game were very competitive and close. The A game was very tight. In the last five minutes, the game was tied at 15 before the team eventually lost 17-24.
The team as a whole played very good defense and did a great job understanding positions.
Natalie Barber and Paige Handsaker played defense exceptionally well, and Avery Hinson held Roland-Story’s best player to only five points. However Coach Thompson said on the offensive side, they made some ball handling mistakes that should be able to improve.
Avery Hinson who had seven points, including a 3 pointer, and Bridget Cahill who had four points. Josie Kelly who came off the bench and hustled hard in the game and managed to produce a few turnovers. The A team’s record is 1-4.
The B game was also very competitive. The game was back and forth, staying a two point game most of the time. Only in the last minutes did Roland-Story make a big push and win 13-22.
Sonya Pritchard scored seven points with a huge effort. Kaleigh Groat, Emma DePenning, and Josie Kelly each had two points. The B team’s record is now 2-3.
The girls play Gilbert at home next Monday, December 10.
