On Monday, November 27, the Nevada 8th grade girls basketball team played the Comets of North Polk at home. The Cubs fell 8-52 in the A game portion of the night. In the B game the Cubs also fell 11-16.
The Comets jumped out on the Cubs early with a 12-0 run which led to them pulling off on their press.
Coach Cary Thompson said, “They were the best team we have played. They were very disciplined and played man defense. They were also very tough”
Avery Hinson was the lead scorer for the Cubs with five points. Some other key scorers were Bridget Cahill with two points and Kaleigh Groat with one point.
Coach Thompson also said, “You could tell that we hadn’t practiced together in over a week with the break. The girls didn’t played with lots of chemistry and played very tired”
The A team for the Cubs now has an overall season record of 1-3.
The B game was a much closer game for the Cubs. The final score of the game was a 11-16 loss. Some key scorers for the Cubs were Lilly Goos with five points, Natalie Barber with four points, and Avery Hinson and Kaleigh Groat with one point each.
The B team for the Cubs is now 2-2 on the year.
Coach Thompson and the Cubs will travel to Story City on November 29 to take on the Norseman of Roland Story.
