On Monday, October 1, the Nevada 9th grade volleyball team played the Boone Toreadors at home.
The Nevada girls had great ball passing and great ball control in their first game. Sophomore Erin Coogler, did a great job setting for the Cubs and had a lot of in-system attacks. Mayzi Weig and Maddie Dunham led the Cubs in attacks in that game and in the whole match.
In game two, the Cubs seemed to struggle with ball control. The Toreadors servers really turned up the heat on the Cubs and the Cubs struggled to pass.
The second game score was tied up 16-16 until Shieann Flores had an excellent serving run and sealed the deal for the Cubs.
Coach Lori Stephenson said, “The girls worked on their communication and controlling their attacks on out-of-system attacks throughout the match. In game three, they were more aggressive with the balls they sent over the net”.
The 9th grade girls also played ADM on Monday and swept the Tigers in just two games, 25-13 and 25-11.
Coach Abigail Hanson said, “We played very well as a team and were able to communicate very well. Everyone showed a lot of improvement”.
Imelda Mata had some really great serves. Freshman Mayzie Weig, was able to land some hits that really built momentum for the Cubs. Sophomore Aubrey Gibson, had some really great digs for the Cubs that helped Nevada keep their rally going.
The 9th grade girls will take on the Greene County Rams on Thursday, October 4 in Jefferson.
