A tough matchup did not get the 8th grade volleyball team down when playing Gilbert on October 1. The team came out strong but ended up coming short against the Tigers 3-4.
In the second game, a key momentum shift was when Paige Handsaker went up to serve. The Cubs were down 14-20, but Paige was able to serve the team all the way to 23-21 to help her them win that set. Stephanie Lopez also came out strong in her serving and helped her team to keep the team aggressive in the first and second games.
A few positives of the match was consistently getting the ball over the net in three contacts, serving aggressively, and hustling for each and every ball. All of these are things the team works towards and were big factors in improving their game from the last time they played Gilbert.
“We had a few blocks, lots of kills, and our serving has improved quite a bit overall,” said Coach Hailee Bentley. Serving, blocking, and hitting the ball has helped the team a lot over the course of the season and the improvements show.
The team plays next Monday, October 8 at home against North Polk to conclude their season.
