The 9th grade football team continued an undefeated season with a hard fought game against Benton Community in Van Horne Friday night. The Cubs won 13-8 in a stellar outing from the players.
The game started off with the Cubs trailing 0-8 in the first two minutes of the first quarter. Then, with a pass from James Edwards to Seth Brown, the Cubs put seven on the board in the second quarter to make it 7-8.
It was a back and forth game for much of the second half. That’s when Gavin Melohn intercepted a pass and ran it all the way back to score a touchdown. That would seal the deal for Nevada in the exciting game.
“The team came out determined and battled through some early adversity,” said Coach Corey Barloon.
The win last Friday night moves the Cubs to a 6-0 record. This week they are focusing on getting ready to play a determined West Marshall Trojan team. They play at the Nevada High School Cub Stadium at 5 PM on October 5.
