On Saturday, September 15, the varsity cross country teams traveled to Swan Lake in Carroll, Iowa. Out of the 11 teams, Nevada girls placed fifth behind Harlan, Atlantic, North Polk, and Atlantic, with a score of 184. The Nevada boys also placed fifth out of 12 teams, placing behind Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson, Lewis Central, Bondurant-Farrar, and Atlantic, with the score of 149.
The Nevada girl runners had an average time of 24:30 with a spread of 1:59. Junior Eliana Hornbuckle ran an impressive 23:25 with a pace of 7:32 minutes per mile. Elie Tuhn placed second for Nevada with a time of 23:39. In third place, Gabby Sampson ran a time of 24:57.
The Nevada boys had an average time of 19:52 among their top seven runners. They had a spread of 1:49. Nevada’s senior, Dalton Baker, ran an outstanding time of 18:42. Junior Jacob Sanders ran a 19:52 placing in second for Nevada. And junior Carter Franzen ran a time of 19:58.
Dalton Baker said, “I thought the meet went really well. There were some really good teams there that we faced. The team put in great effort at the race, and I think we could still improve on some things.”
Overall, the meet went really well for the Cubs.
The Cubs host their home meet at Hickory Grove on Tuesday, September 25.
