On Saturday, September 8, Nevada competed in a JV tournament at ADM. The Cubs did fantastic and were able to walk away proud, winning all five games.
Defensive specialist sophomore Addison Vorm said, “We were a lot smarter than the other teams and more efficient in what we did and how we played.”
After winning all three matches in pool play, the Cubs earned a spot in the championship gold bracket and played against Bondurant-Farrar and Harlan. Against Bondurant, Nevada fought hard and was able to come out winning two out of three of their sets, 14-21, 21-14, and 15-10. Nevada blew Harlan away by winning both of their sets right off the bat, 21-12 and 21-18.
JV Coach Catie Neuman said, “During the Bondurant game, the girls showed a lot of perseverance. We got down early in the match and came back to win it. The girls did a nice job of keeping their energy up and staying positive in close matches all day.”
Coach Neuman mentioned some notable players from Saturday’s tournament. Maddie Dunham and Madison McGaffin were strong and smart middle hitters. Erin Coogler worked hard and played a solid middle back for Nevada.
“As a team in our bracket games, we had a lot more energy than our opponents and it helped push us even when we were down,” said sophomore setter, Jaeden Heintz.
All in all, Nevada was very proud to be taking home a first place victory and is excited to play at Saydel this Thursday, September 13. The team is hopeful for another win.
