On February 15, the Nevada boys varsity basketball team fell short to Spirit Lake 56-57.
“We were playing the #7 team in the state, #3 team defensively,” said Head Coach Chris Hinson. “And they had a good 6’10” kid inside, so we knew we’d have our hands full. But I was really proud of our guys. I thought we outworked Spirit Lake and controlled the pace of the game the entire game, but came up one point short. We had a chance to win at the end but give credit to Spirit Lake’s defense as we couldn’t find the open look we wanted. We jumped out to a 7-0 lead early and it was back and forth the whole game.”
Trent Stahl scored 23 points and had two rebounds, Tyler Sansgaard scored nine points and had one rebound, and Luke Merfeld scored eight points and had nine rebounds.
“Luke Merfeld’s physical defense on their big players was outstanding and everyone else on the floor rotated and helped well, also. We held him to only had four points in the second half and most of his points came off of others who created for him,” said Coach Hinson.
